Jean a qualified social worker with a management qualification, an Advanced Certificate in Residential Child Care and a qualified and experienced assessor and verifier in a wide range of SVQ awards. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. She has been an Associate Lecturer with Strathclyde University (Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care).
As a qualified service provision manager much of her work has been in complex social care settings working with young people in need, including secure care. She became involved with SVQs in care in 1991. While at the secure school she became an internal verifier and became actively involved in the development of training, assessment and verification for staff across a wide range of residential schools in the West of Scotland.
As part of the SVQ management committee she was responsible for the development of the strategic plan for the introduction and development of SVQs in care across a network of residential schools and the preparation for registration of the Social Care staff. This plan was the first serious attempt to introduce standards and quality assurance to a sector which has been publicly noted for its lack of training and standards. The plan involved standardizing access to training and assessment processes across four residential schools involving around 500 staff.
As part of her work she initiated and implemented a policy and procedure for the review of candidates who failed to meet the standard. This policy now contributes significantly to the completion of some Oilean candidates portfolios.
Jean is also a Director of All Over Beauty Ltd, a beauty therapist service www.all-over-beauty.co.uk and a Director of A Life Explored Ltd , www.alifeexplored.com
