Oilean has a wide range of assessors and verifiers working in a variety of situations. We have assessors based in Midlothian Fife, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch and Balloch. Our assessors carry a small workload since we expect to give candidates an intensive service. Commonsense tells us that this will enable them to complete their awards in a shorter timescale and find their assessment a much more enjoyable experience. All our assessors have a current Disclosure Scotland in place.
John Cran :
Assesses and verifies across the range of our awards. John has been involved in social care as a practitioner, manager and trainer for over 30 years. His qualifications include Bachelor of Laws, Diploma in Social Work, a Social Work Management qualification and A1and V1. He is a member of the Chartered Management Insitute and the Charteerd Institute of Personnel and Development. John started working with young people in 1974, becoming a manager in an innovative project working with young runaways in 1984. He has since worked in a variety of settings in statutory and voluntary organisations with both young people and adults

Jean Brown:
Jean assesses and verifies across the full range of our awards: Jean’s career in child care spans 25 years and she has been a residential manager since 1989. Her qualifications include CQSW, Advanced Certificate in Residential Child Care, MCI 4, Certificated Cognitive Skills Tutor, D32/33 and D34. Jean is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Insitute.
Jean is a relative newcomer having started her working life in a variety of other settings, including a whiskybond, a knitwear factory, brickworks before being lured into social care in 1980. She too has been a manager in a variety of social care settings, including secure accommodation since 1989 and has been an advocate for SVQ qualifications in care since their first introduction in 1991. Jean is responsible for quality assurance and the support and training of new assessors.

Irene Stevens:
Irene Stevens worked in a variety of social work field and residential settings in the statutory and voluntary sector throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She works for the Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care (SIRCC), based in the Glasgow School of Social Work. She taught on the MA (Hons) programme with a particular focus on disadvantage, disability and residential childcare. She is currently research manager for SIRCC and co-editor of the SIRCC Journal. Her current research interests are children’s rights and the application of complexity theory to residential child care. Irene assesses and verifies across the range of our awards. Irene has B.A. hons in Psychology, CQSW, M.Sc. in Advanced Social Work Studies, (specialising in Social Service Planning), T.Q.F.E., D33/34/35, Counselling Skills Certificate, MCI level 4 in Management. She is a Cognitive Skills tutor. She is currently studying for her doctorate and writes on Child Protection and Autism.

Margaret Watson:
Margaret asesses in Care (Children and Young People), Community Justice and in core skills. She has been working on developing our core skills programme. Margaret has been a foster carer with Barnardos since 1993. She has an HNC in Social Care, SVQ 3 in Caring for Children and Young People and an Advanced Foster care Award.

Anne Thomson:
Anne has been involved with care, initially with young people from 1969 till 1987 and then from 1987 till 1987 till 1994 she was in a variety of management posts in elderly care. She has worked in a variety of residential settings. She has been an assessor since 1996 and a verifier from 1998. She joined us in 2005 from West Dunbartonshire Council and organises our standardisation processes. She recently organised an A1 training programme for NCH.
